Girls Love Mail

A new charity called Girls Love Mail is giving the gift of a hand-written letter to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Anyone with a desire to encourage a woman can write a letter. Once your letter is ready, send it to Girls Love Mail. We distribute the letters via appropriate cancer centers and physician offices. The charity is taking off, so please Join Us by going to www.GirlsLoveMail.com. And look for a feature on Girls Love Mail in the March 15th issue of Woman's World Magazine!

Letter Writing Tips for Valentine's Day

In 1797, a British publisher issued The Young Man's Valentine Writer which contained scores of sentimental verses for young lovers unable to compose their own. Thus began the custom of letters and greeting cards. Valentine's Day is the biggest letter-writing day of the year, but letters are also great for other occasions like encouraging a breast cancer patient. Still, writing a letter is no easier today than in 1797, so here are a few letter-writing tips to help.

1. Tell the Truth
You don’t need to exaggerate to show your empathy even if that means admitting you haven’t gone through what they have. Your friend will appreciate your honesty.

2. Simple is Okay
Put away the Thesaurus. Most of the time, a simple “I’m thinking of you” or “You’re in my thoughts” is all it takes.

3. Recall Something Funny
If you’re not sure how to start your letter, why not remind your friend about a funny moment you shared. Laughter is healing. You can’t go wrong with a funny story.

4. Write From the Heart
No matter how clumsy the words, if it comes from the heart you can’t miss.
